An update on the upcoming Christmas Activities:

• Thursday, 5th December, Pre-orders for items for sale in the Christmas markets.

• Saturday, 7thDecember: All pupils are invited to sing in Kilnaleck on Saturday 7th December. Please meet at Kiernan’s shop at 4.50 p.m. Parents are to stay for the performance which will last approx.. 10 minutes.  Children can wear their Christmas jumpers and hats, tinsel etc….
• Monday, 16th December: Christmas Draw. Please keep selling the raffle tickets. Please return sold tickets and money as soon as possible. More tickets can be got from Bríd if sales are going well for you! All sold and unsold tickets should be returned by Friday, 13th of December. Prizes for Top Sellers of raffle tickets! The Top 10 students (families) who sell the most tickets can choose a prize for themselves and their family from the prize table. Every student will receive a small gift for selling tickets.
• Tuesday, 17th December. Junior and Senior infants play: 10:00 to 10:30. We invite you to our Christmas Carol service in the church on at 1.15 to 1.45.  Infants will go home after the Carol service at 2 p.m.  All the other pupils will return to the school and will go home on the bus or by car as usual at 3 p.m.
• Wednesday, 18th December: Christmas markets and Bake Sale. 
• Friday, 20th December: Christmas Dash.

School finishes at 12 noon on Friday and re-opens on Monday, 6th of January. Our Christmas Newsletter will be sent out to all families by email in the last week. Pupils can wear their Christmas jumpers during the last week of school.

The Parent's Association had its first meeting of the year on 12th of November. They are busy preparing for the annual Christmas Draw. Tickets will be distributed in the next week. We wish to thank all the sponsors for their generous prizes.

The Board of Management had its first meeting of the year on 10th October. 
​The Board conducted an annual review of the Anti-Bullying Policy and its Implementation as well as reviewing the Child Safeguarding Statement. Both updated policies and the Annual Admissions Notice can be viewed on this website under Policies.  Enrolments for the 2025-2026 school year will begin from January. Admission Application forms can be collected from the office. 

The Child Safeguarding Statement, Anti-bullying Policy, and Health and Safety Policy are reviewed annually. The Designated Liaison Person for Child Protection (DLP) is Mrs Teresa Galligan, and the Deputy Designated Liaison Person (DDLP) is Mrs Siobhan Clarke.

​We are currently working on our School Improvement Plan, which will be posted on the school website once finalised. Over the next three years, we will focus on:

• Well-being
• Primary Language Curriculum (Teanga 2)
• Digital Learning
• Implementation of the Primary Maths Curriculum

Additionally, training for all staff for the new Primary Maths Curriculum was held on the 21st of October. 

The closing date for Team Hope’s Shoebox Appeal is 8th  of  November. This annual campaign brings Christmas gifts to children living in poverty. For many, these gifts are the only ones they receive, bringing immense joy.

​The students were enthusiastic about the Student Council this year. Written applications were submitted by those wishing to join the committee. The successful candidates are:
Aine Donnelly, Katie Smith, Mia Brady, Josh Reilly, Liam Fagan, Neasa Hewitt, Azura Manning & Alfie McCabe. The Council will meet once each term with two staff members to discuss ideas and activities on behalf of the pupils. One of their first ideas—to move the 3rd and 4th classes closer to the others when lining up—was implemented last week. They also helped decorate the school for Halloween and are actively serving as Green Schools Ambassadors, encouraging responsible waste disposal.

• Halloween Disco: The children had a fantastic time dressing up on Friday, and the Halloween disco was a big success. Thank you to the Active Schools Committee and the Student Council for organising the event and decorating the school. Photos will be posted on ClassDojo and the school website.

​

• Grow Your Own Initiative: We are continuing to participate in the Grow Your Own initiative this year. Sarah Ames, Urte & Jake are members of our Gardening Committee who will take care of planting vegetables under Ms McGoohan's supervision.

• Our Active Schools Committee has been elected, and they will promote healthy living and encourage the school community to stay active. The members of our Active Schools Committee are Neala, Jessie, Katie, EllenRose Brady, Roisin, Shauna, Max & Jackson
