Christmas Market & Bake Sale
5th & 6th organised a very successful Christmas market and bake sale. The children kindly donated a percentage of their profits to Cavan Hospital children’s ward. They also donated 25 euro to Down Syndrome Ireland. A huge thank you to all who supported the fundraising initiatives. We wish to thank Mrs Doherty for organising the Christmas Markets with her class. Christmas Plays We hope everyone enjoyed the wonderful play that was performed by Junior and Senior Infants on Tuesday, 17th of December. Pupils from 1st to 6th class sang Christmas Carols and played Christmas music in the church and it certainly reminded us about what Christmas is all about. A huge thank you to all the staff for their hard work in preparing the pupils so well for their performances. Parent’s Association Raffle The Parent’s Association held their annual Christmas raffle in the Old School on Monday, 16th of December. There was a fantastic effort made this year to sell tickets. We want to thank everyone who made a huge effort to sell the tickets in their community. I want to thank all the generous sponsors of the raffle. Without their support there would not be a raffle. We also want to thank the Parent’s Association for organising and holding the draw. Finally, we want to thank Brid, our school secretary who distributed the tickets to all the families, kept account of the money received and with the help of the pupils prepared all the tickets for the draw. Curriculum Staff received training for the new Primary Maths Curriculum and will continue to implement it in each class. The implementation of the new Primary Language Curriculum continues with a focus on the implementation of Accelerated Reader Programme in 3rd to 6th class. Infants and 5th & 6th are engaging in a Pilot Programme- PE and Gaeilge. We continue to address targets in our Improvement plan that focus on Wellbeing. Extra Curricular Activity Ollie Costello coached the Pupils in football up to Christmas. 6 weeks of gymnastics with Craig will begin after Christmas. Swimming lessons for pupils in 3rd class up to 6th class will resume after Christmas. The lessons are due to begin on Monday, 6th of January. Gymnastics will begin on Wednesday 8th of January. More information regarding the swimming lessons & gymnastics will be sent out after Christmas. Parent/teacher Meetings Parent/teacher meetings took place face to face on the 21st of November. We were delighted to be able to meet parents to discuss how well their children are progressing and discuss any concerns parents may have regarding their children. Hot School Meals Programme Please ensure that you check notifications from the HotLunch suppliers. It is necessary to order the lunches during the order deadline approaches. Your child will not receive the hot lunch they opt for if the order isn’t in on time. Counselling in Schools Pilot Our school is involved in the pilot of counselling in schools. With the support of a NEPS psychologist the staff identify a pupil who may benefit from the 6 counselling sessions. School Policies A recent review of the following polices was completed by the BOM on 10th of October. Child Safeguarding Policy & Admissions Notice. All Mandatory Policies are published on the school website- www.crosserloughns.com. If any parent wishes to receive a hard copy of any of the school policies, you may contact Bríd for a copy. The Anti-bullying policy will be reviewed at the next BOM meeting held in January 2025. Staff will receive training in the new Bí Cineálta Policy in January 2025 and a new Bí Cineálta Policy will be drafted following consultation with staff, pupils, parents and members of the BOM. the Bí Cineálta Policy will be adopted by the BOM in June 2025 and implemented in September 2025. School Enrolment Application forms & enrolment packs for school enrolment in Crosserlough NS can be collected in January when we return after the Christmas holidays. We return to school after Christmas on Monday, 6th of January. The school Calendar is published on the school website.
