Science Week

12/7/2016

Picture
During Science Week 2 employees from ABBVIE visited our class to carry out science experiments.
Our task was to create the tallest tower that would stand upright for more than 60 seconds. We made the tower with spaghetti and marshmallows. We could use white tape to tape the spaghetti together.

Here are some of the towers that were created. It was such a difficult task as the spaghetti is not very strong to hold the heavy marshmallow. Some problems we encountered:
  • spaghetti snapping
  • the tower collapsing
  • the taller the tower the more chance of it collapsing under the weight of the marshmallow
Solution:
  • build the tower like a tripod shape- securing the first 3 spaghetti sticks and reinforcing them with white tape.
  • securing the spaghetti joints
  • doubling the spaghetti sticks and taping them together
We were very lucky to be given the opportunity to try out this experiment during science week. We would like to thank Cavan Library for organising this event in our school.
