          Alzheimers Society
Laren interviewed her Granny because heis involved in raising funds and helping out the Alzheimers society

L - How did you get involved?

G - I got involved because my husband passed away from Alzheimers and there was no support available at that time in Cavan.

L -  What did you do first?

G - I started a monthly support group . There was so many people interested that we then formed a branch.

L -  What did you do next?

G - We discovered a need for a Day Center . So with the help of funding from the HSE and the use of a building we started a weekly day center .

L -What do you do at the Day Center.

G -The Day Center is a place where people with Alzheimers are looked after by professional carers to allow the people who look after them a few precios hours to do what ever they like .

L - How do people get to the Day Center ?

G -Through Fundrasing and the generosity of the people of Cavan a bus was purchased to bring the people to and from the center .
L- Do you run any other services?

G- Yes, three years ago we started an Alzheimers Cafe every month .

L- What do u do at the cafe ?

G- Realitives and friends can bring their loved ones to a safe and friendly environment where they can chat, enjoy music, and have tea ,coffee, and scones . Thanks to the money we have raised we can now offer two days a week in our Day Center .

L- What did you do with the 220 euro that our school raised ?

G- This money will be used to keep our bus on the road for a whole month .

G- There are 55,000 people in Ireland with Alzheimers and 11 people are diagnosed everyday. So the need for our service is growing .
