Mrs Galligan would like to welcome all her new pupils back to school for another exciting school year. This year there are 16 pupils in 2nd class and 6 pupils in 3rd class. Already the pupils have settled back and are getting used to their new teacher.

Homework is a vital part of a child's learning. It sets the seed for future independent study. The homework is not too tasking and should take 2nd class 20-30 minutes and 3rd class 30-40 minutes. If you have any conerns with the homework your child is doing please let me know so we can adapt it to suit the needs of your child.

Homework consists of the following:

Mental Maths: 10 Questions in  2nd class and 20 questions in 3rd class. At the beginning of the term the exercises are suitable for all the pupils. However there will be some topics that will come up that they may not have covered in class but will be covering at a later date.

Spellbound
: 16/20 words to learn and practice through word/sentence scrambled, wordsearches, dictionary work, missing word in sentence. The words will tie in with the development of phoncis for reading. If your child is struggling to writie the words correctly then they will be tested on half of the words at the end of the week.

Reading: Depending on their reading ability pupils will be expected to read from their core reading book each night. On Tuesday & Thursday the pupils will ge a reading book suitable to their reading ability. Encourage your child to read their own favourite book alone or with a parent/older sibling.

Gaeilge:
The pupils are learning 8/12 irish words a week with emphasis on the sounds in the words just like phonics in english.

Religion/SESE: Ocassionly the pupils will get an exercise/project to complete over a few days/week. They don't need to complete all the work on one evening!!

Tinwhistle: Your child will continue to learn tunes on the tinwhistle. Practice makes perfect so get the ear muffs ready!!!

All homework shoud be checked and signed by parent each night. Please praise your child for their efforts and sign their test  notebook for Monday and they will get class dojo points.
